meet your therapist, Dr. Rachael Guzzardo
Meet Rachael, AKA Dr. G!
A lifelong health and fitness enthusiast, Rachael Guzzardo graduated with her bachelor's degree in Movement Science from the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology in 2008 and her master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Eastern Michigan University in 2010. She went on to become a 2013 graduate of Hampton University in Hampton, VA, where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree.
Dr. Guzzardo began her career as a physical therapist in 2013 at Henry Ford Outpatient Rehab in Wyandotte, MI, where she continues to work as a contingent therapist. While there, Dr. Guzzardo worked on Henry Ford Health's inter-clinic sports specialty rehab team and Henry Ford Wyandotte's spine specialist team. She has completed additional training in evaluation & treatment of the spine and pelvis, as well as vestibular rehab and peripartum rehab. In 2015 she earned her Strength & Conditioning Specialist certification through the National Strength & Conditioning Association to better serve her active patients. Dr. G's favorite part about working with athletes is being able to get really creative with higher-level functional rehab to prepare them for returning to their sport.
In 2021 Dr. G transitioned into a teaching role to better accommodate the needs of her growing family. She loves her students and is obnoxiously obsessed with turning her them into exemplary healthcare workers so that she can enjoy working alongside them one day.
Rachael has been involved in the figure skating community from a very young age, ending her career having passed Junior Freestyle, Senior Moves, and Silver Dance tests. She competed as a singles skater locally and regionally through high school, and nationally and internationally in college as a member of the University of Michigan Senior Synchronized Skating team. She has been coaching skaters both on and off-ice since 2002. In 2023 she proudly added coaching the Grosse Ile/Milan/Lincoln Park High School skating team to her list of duties. Professionally, Rachael has been able to merge her love of skating and rehab by volunteering with US Figure Skating first as a fitness professional performing STARS assessments, and later providing medical coverage at local and national-level USFS events.
When not at a school or ice rink, Rachael enjoys listening to music, books, and podcasts, watching documentaries on Netflix, and spending quality time with her husband, Craig, their 3 beautiful children, and 2 dogs. They live and work in the Downriver area, and love exploring the beautiful state of Michigan as much as possible.
